Some patients choose to have their breast implants removed years after augmentation for a variety of reasons.
When appropriate, implant removal can be performed together with implant exchange or fat transfer, helping reduce the sudden loss of breast volume after removal.

When removing a silicone implant, we generally avoid creating a new scar and use the original incision whenever possible.
Depending on the condition of the implant and surrounding capsule, however, we may recommend a different surgical approach.
We assess the implant and capsule carefully with ultrasound and then propose an appropriate surgical plan.
With implant removal alone, breast volume is reduced and the breast may return closer to its pre-augmentation appearance.
This may be perfectly acceptable for some patients, but simultaneous augmentation can help avoid a sense of volume loss.

If removal alone is performed, discomfort usually improves within a few days and is typically manageable with oral pain medication.
If augmentation is performed at the same time, downtime will depend on the augmentation method chosen.
You may shower from the day after surgery. Please avoid bathing or soaking until the sutures have been removed.
QWill my breasts look sunken or saggy after implant removal?
Because implants stretch the skin, the breasts may look saggy after removal.
The breast glandular tissue may also have been compressed by the implant, so the breasts can appear flattened or hollow.
For this reason, we often recommend discussing fat transfer breast augmentation at the same time as implant removal.
